The Best Waterproof Shockproof Digital Camera Ever?
March 4th, 2010
Olympus has some new waterproof digital cameras, so this time around we are going to take a look at the Oympus Tough Series cameras. There are currently five models in production. The Stylus Tough 8010, the Stylus Tough 6020, the Stylus Tough 3000, the Stylus Tough 8000 and the Stylus Tough 6000. All the cameras retail for between $200 and $400, so the differences are really in the details. Some waterproof digital camera reviews go into a huge amount of detail, but I will save all that for later, as the important things will be listed here.
First up is the new Olympus Stylus Tough 8010.

Olympus Stylus Tough 8010
As with the entire sereis of Stylus Tough cameras, this camera is tough. It features a revolutionary system of waterproof seals and gaskets that enable it to be submerged to up to 33 feet. Truly, a waterproof digital camera.
One of the other touted features of this camera is it’s shockproofness. (Is that a word?) No, this does not mean you can shear your lamp cord and play frankenstein on it. Rather, it means how far you are able to drop it, without causing damage. This model will withstand a drop of 6.6 feet.
Another nice feature is this camera’s ability to withstand cold. Yes, you too can place this camera in your freezer, set the time, close the door and take photographs of your frozen peas. Well, as long as the temperature isn’t below 14 degrees farrenheight.
Crushproofness (is this…nevermind). This model’s ruggedness and reinforced LCD can withstand up to 220 pounds of techno-rage. If you can slam your hand down on the table with more than 220 pounds of pressure, then you might consider a career in the UFC. But the camera will not break. This may be the best waterproof shockproof digital camera yet.

One of the other cool features with this camera is that it shoots 720 pixel HD (high definition, duh..). It’s one touch operation make this a very nice addition. Letterboxing comes sold seperatley.
So, if you’re looking forĀ the bestĀ waterproof digital camera, (isn’t everyone?) then this may be the one for you. It retails for around $399.99 and is at the absolute top end for this line. The previous model, the Stylus Tough 8000 had only 12 megapixel resolution and no HD movie capability, as well as some other differences. If you have a computer with a Printer scanner copier , then this will make a fine addition, as it comes with a cable to connect it to your computer.
Now, the next time you take your vacation to Cabo or head to the waterpark, you can take along this fine waterproof digital camera and take some lovely shots of some coral reef or perhaps the cracks along the bottom of the local swimming pool.
